Here is a program with great potential: it looks good, but it just doesn’t work the way it should. From download to data entry, printing to seeking help, problems were encountered. Search links are absent and you’ll have to use an add-on program for printing. 

Feature Set:  

The individual record screen is beautifully laid out. Subscreens like Alternate Names, Events, and Multimedia can be expanded and collapsed to streamline your workspace. A search area is conveniently located below the Individual Record area. Unfortunately, some functions just don’t work or are misleading resulting in extra work.

A great genealogy program should minimize the data entry process, not make it more difficult. Typing is slowed by non-functioning keys; enter key is inactive in this program. Fields appear type-able, but they’re not. You’ll get a format error if you type dates incorrectly, but no fix is suggested. In other programs, the date is automatically reformatted.

Once you’ve input your family members, you will have to drag and drop each person where they belong on the family tree. Every other program generates this automatically.

WinFamily 7 comes with TreeDraw WinFamily. Again, it looks good, but importing failed. 

Help/Documentation:  

The program help is searchable but brief. This is a Scandinavian product so if you proceed with purchase, you’ll want to contact tech support through email. 

Summary:  

If WinFamily worked, it would be a competitor for a top spot. It doesn’t.  Tasks that should be automated are not. Pretty to look at but a pain to use. Look to TopTenREVIEWS’ top ranked software for better options.
